Lori wanted a greenhouse. I said "maybe."
That was the whole commitment on my side. One word.
If you've been married a while, you already know how this ends. In our house, "maybe" counts as a yes.
Then something strange happened. Her excitement started rubbing off on me.
Lori would have been happy with something small and simple. A little spot to start seeds and keep a few things going through the winter.
Then I started looking.
I'm the one who pointed out a bigger one. Then a nicer one. That's when it got expensive.
So here it is. The greenhouse that started as Lori's idea and my "maybe," and somehow ended up as my upgrade.
We got it to stretch the growing season into the winter. Summer was another story.
This is Texas. Lori knew it would be too hot in there come summer. She wasn't going to let that stop the fun.
So I spent another month making and adding shade cloth, insulating where we could, and putting in an air conditioner.
Yes. An air-conditioned greenhouse. For plants. In case you wondered how far one "maybe" can go.
That's where The Greenhouse Oath came from. Apparently, saying "maybe" to a wife who wants a greenhouse is the same as making a blood oath. We know this one firsthand.
So tell us. What did "maybe" get you into? A greenhouse? Raised beds? A truckload of dirt in the driveway?
The Greenhouse Oath T-Shirt, for every husband who learned what "maybe" means.
If it was raised beds at your house, there's The Raised Bed Oath too.
